Descendants of Patrick Caldwell Galloway and Sarah Elizabeth Inzer Galloway

Patrick Caldwell Galloway was born on July 1, 1857 in Eutah, Greene County, Alabama to Alfred Phillip Galloway and Catherine (Kate) Waters Schoppert. Sarah Elizabeth (Lizzie) Inzer was born on February 25, 1861 in Argo, St. Clair, Alabama to Reverend Robert Whitten Inzer and Tempie Loveless.

Patrick Caldwell was reared on the old home plantation and received his preliminary educational training in the common schools in Alabama. Patrick Caldwell and Sarah Elizabeth were married on November 9, 1876 by her father, Reverend Robert Whitten Inzer, in the Inzer’s home in Argo, St. Clair, Alabama.

In the 1880 Census for Alabama, St. Clair County, Ward #3, Branchville, Volume 21, Page 20, Patrick Caldwell and Sarah Elizabeth are listed as living in Dwelling No. 153. His occupation was listed as Farmer and hers as Keeping House, with two sons, W.M. age 2, and T.H. age 3/12 year. Also listed at the same dwelling was Patrick’s parents: Alfred Phillip Galloway and Catherine Waters Galloway, and at Dwelling No. 156 Sarah’s father and his second wife: Robert Whitten Inzer and Mary Ann Pickens Inzer.

In 1883, they moved to Jefferson County, Arkansas. Patrick Caldwell assumed the general management of a large plantation at Wabbaseka, Jefferson County, Arkansas, in 1887, and later was in charge of the Altheimer Plantation, near Pine Bluff, Jefferson County, Arkansas, for five years.

In 1896, Patrick Caldwell inaugurated his independent career as a planter, leased an extensive plantation at Garrison, Arkansas, where they lived. In conjunction with his agricultural enterprises, he conducted a general store at Garrison until September 1909 when he moved to Moscow, Jefferson County, Arkansas. He was actively engaged in business as a merchant, rapidly building up a large and representative trade and gained precedence as one of the foremost businesses in Moscow. In 1911, his son Louie worked with his father in the general store.

Patrick Caldwell served as School Director in Moscow, Arkansas for many years and was highly esteemed by the people in the town.

Patrick Caldwell and Sarah Elizabeth became the parents of nine sons, namely: William Massey, Eugene Hemory, Thorney Caldwell, Alfred Whitten, Louie Altheimer, Joseph Stanley, Devrix Marshall, Hervey Mann, and Patrick Caldwell, Jr. Three sons, Eugene Hemory, Thorney Caldwell, and Joseph Stanley, died in their childhood.

Patrick Caldwell died January 9, 1926 in Cornerstone, Jefferson County, Arkansas and Sarah Elizabeth died August 18, 1928 in Jonesboro, Craighead County, Arkansas. They are buried in Nicholson Cemetery at Tamo, Jefferson County, Arkansas.
